I'm pretty sure the Hispanic population of Bozeman has increased. It's possible that the population of illegal immigrants has increased also. If it has, it's proabaly because local employers are willing to hire people illegally to work at lower wages and to do the work we dont want to. I think you are assuming that the folks you had an encounter with were illegals because you want them escorted back to the border. How do you even know they were immigrants? And also how do you know they were gang bangers? Is it possible your attitude and opionion expressed itself when you did your one second stare at the other vehicle? We do all strive to keep our town beautiful, but we don't live on a private island. I don't think your busing plan keeps our town beautiful. Maybe intolerant, but not beautiful |

| I don't know about you, but I live in an extremely diverse place called America. Here in America, we have a blending of many different cultures, languages and races. I guess what I'm saying is that if you don't like the diverse atmosphere in this country you could always look for an exclusively white community somewhere and I'm sure they would welcome you with open arms if there is such a place. I would also wager a guess that your absurdly negative attitude has far more to do with why those "gang bangers" jumped out of their car. | |

My great grandparents are immigrants, I wonder if they will be caught up in the dragnet. If moving here recently is grounds for removal I wonder if your five years here will make the cutoff? Or maybe you are deciding on racial grounds since the tag "mexicans" is attached to your post but absent from the content. I suggest taking a deep breath, getting out to meet your neighbors, and maybe doing some community service to REALLY make this a better place. While we're on the topic, can we stop using the phrase "Boz Angeles"? |

Maybe you will all see that your tolerance is what brought it on and the fact that you didn't do anything about it was the reason why. If your a citizen great, but if you read the Federal publications you will note that two-thirds of them are ILLEGAL! The real issue is the rich developers in Big Sky, they are the main reason why this is happening. I dont know about you but BZN is a hell of a lot dirtier since the Mexicans and Blacks came to town, oh wait, all that ghetto trash walking around the mall selling crack to your children is what the USA is all about... Diversification right? |

If you have been/go to any "big" city, and I have lived in a few personally, and go to where most the Mexican's live, you will see filth, drugs, gang-bangers, etc and nothing but it. If you go to where most the Black's live, you will see the same, with the exception of "nicer" cars. I know this is stereotyping but hell, a rat is a rat no matter what you call it. I also know there are Caucasians that live this way too, but it is not as predominant. Why are you (plural) gullible enough to believe once they infect BZN it would be any different? I understand all the crap behind it and I understand it is the Caucasian that is to blame as it is us who have "bred" this into them with welfare and free-lunches if they whined enough about how they were treated in the past or how their lives is so unruly in Mexico. There is no easy solution, I do agree with that, but I have to say checking their credentials at will should be allowed and if they are found to be illegal they are shipped out IMMEDIATELY. Heck, PLEASE put some of my tax dollars to something that helps the greater population and not just some rich guys/girls numbers, or giving a speeding ticket on I-90. By not doing anything we are literally letting our beautiful piece of the country go by the wayside. We need to act BEFORE it is too late. Think about it, if we continue going down this path, the USA will be the bottom of the barrel in terms of a country as a whole, our dollar is already worth almost nothing as it stands now. And finally, leaving you with personal quote... "The truth hurts most of the time, but accepting it as the truth will alleviate that pain as you can strive to change the aspects that hurt." |

By immigrant, I assume you meant ILLEGAL and not of the variety that are going through the process of actually IMMIGRATING to America from their country of origin? If you're going to slander, you should at least make sure that your terms correct. Land of the free, home of the brave - come, give us your poor, your tired, your weary, your down trodden - but hey, only if your Caucasian. If not, you may INFECT those of us that happened to be born that way. How is it that you're so sure the group of kids at the stop light were gang bangers? Or illegal? Did you ask them for their green card? Did they flash you a sign - and you ARE up on those gang signs, right? And we all know that drugs never even EXISTED in Montana until those damn dirty Mexicans and blacks came to town, right? Was there anyone else you wanted to offend and stereotype? How about those damn Native Americans? Sorry, that would be Indian for your purposes. People of Middle Eastern descent probably get you all worked up, too, don't they? It seems to me that no one has a greater sense of entitlement than the Angry White Male. I agree that Illegal Immigration should be stopped. I agree that there should not be concessions made for people here under illegal circumstances. I have no problem with people legally immigrating here, or being here under a work visa. Just go through the proper channels and follow procedure. Bashing every person of any sort of color other than white isn't going to do anything for anyone. It doesn't make the world a better place; and if that's really your goal then perhaps you could take some of that 'passion' and apply it in a more productive manner? |

| Yep, thats what many folks I know call the place now due to the population explosion, the higher prices of housing and the influx of a more diverse population. The term "Bozangles" isn't a positive one either, just so those that are against the term or the implication, understand. My biggest problem is the diversity. Example: having lived in several larger cities, both in europe and the U.S., I am no longer comfortable just walking through the Gallatin Valley mall just strolling along and looking around. Why? Diversity. When I get stares from those of a non-whitei persuasion (stated that way for those of you that are offended by anything other than the use of that term), and I am made to feel like I just insulted them somehow, I am no longer going in there. Yes, Montana has had its share of drug problems but I am also convinced that when the diversity increases, so will the drug problem. You watch, as the diversity level increases, so will a multitude of problems in Bozangles and I'll be one of the first people to say to all the naysayers that I told ya so and then what will you do? It will be too late then. This keeps happening and I might consider moving my family away. Some of you might say "good ridiance then" to me but you won't be saying that in 5-10 years, you'll be moving out of there yourself as well! Bottom line, if they bring crime, get rid of them. If they bring drugs, get rid of them. If they aren't legal, get rid of them. Do it now before there are too many. | |

I doubt the accuracy of the original post. After a "1 second look", the original poster knew a car full of gang banging illegal immigrants jumped out of the car to attempt a fight?? If this indeed happened as described, were the police contacted? After living in Bozeman for close to 5 years, you should know how to dial 911 or drive to the police station. |

You know who I really hate? It's those people from West Bozeman. Sure you have your parking lots, your national stores, your multi-lane roads. That's not real Bozeman! Then you drive into our turf, you cruise our one way streets, you go to our hospital, you get in line in front of me at the Pickle Barrel, and you act like you own the place. GET OUTTA TOWN!!1! You Westies realize, of course, that we are all laughing at you. Just because you have your own I-90 interchange on 19th does not mean you are "in". Your houses and stores used to be tumbleweed fields, you know that right? HA-HA And another thing. I don't want the discussion to turn ugly or hateful, but I have to tell you that last summer I was at the intersection of Babcock & Main and I think I saw somebody having intimacy with a sheep. Also, why do people from West Bozeman smell so funny? There ought to be a citizenship test, and if you can't parallel park at 5pm on Main between Tracy and Black without holding up traffic, if you can't figure out how to make a left turn into the new library, and if you can't spell Willson correctly, then your driver's license should read "SE Belgrade" because you haven't really earned Bozeman yet. |

You know what, you can keep the east side of Bozeman. I wouldn't live in the Ghetto that is Bozeman east of 7th and North of Main for all the money in the world, its filled with trailer parks, meth labs and "art houses". There's a reason why you guys have the parade of sheds rather then parade of homes, because you don't believe in capitalism, social progress or common hygiene. Take a jump into Bozeman creek next time you guys, its free and will stop that horrible stench of patchoulli oil that fouls the air as I bike through your little Bohemia. If you wanted Bozeman to be like Missoula (and you know you do) please feel free to turn left at the 7th Avenue on ramp and get off when your black biodiesel burning jetta runs out of gas. If you don't make it and don't want to support the your so called "oil barrons and the rest of the new world order" you could just put in one of your organic soy-double-tall-free-trade-I-love-brown-skinned-people-really coffees into the tank I'm sure it'd fire right up. But if you end up in Deer Lodge for the rest of your life, consider it good Karma because you just saved the fine taxpayers of West Bozeman the cost to transported there when you won't fit in our jail for your all too common string of possession charges. The library should have been in West Bozeman not in east Bozeman, it was a conspiracy by Alice and a duping of Bozeman at large. What a rip off! Why should the majority of the population drive to the library? When if you put it in West Bozeman we could walk or bike. Where do all of the kids live who go to the library? West Bozeman! The city commission should be restructured to have districts rather then at large voting that way West Bozeman could have the power that it should wield for these city wide decisions!!!!!11 |

Seems like there is a lot of concern with Bozeman being dirty, or that it's not "the beautiful place we all strive for it to be." Just so ya know, Bozeman Clean-Up day is Sunday the 20th. It starts at 9am at Bogert Park (in the especially dirty east side of town!) and there is free food and prizes. Or just take some time to clean up your favorite places. Come out to clean up with your neighbors of various colors, and test these theories of social decline. East side 4 eva! |

This is really what you are worried about? Did you really think you were going to be attacked in the middle of little Bozeman by a car of, what you assumed to be, "illegal" immigrants? Have you never lived in any town / city with a population over 15,000? Relocating (big gasp - YES - I'm not a NATIVE Montanan) to Bozeman was an easy transition, since Bozeman - for a town of 30,000 + still maintains a level of security, community awareness, and diversity that is unique for its size and remoteness to other metropolitan areas. If you really are afraid of Bozeman's "gang-bangers" I whole heartedly pity you. Move to a town under the population of 300 - there are plenty of those in Montana. Instead of worrying about all the dangers of Bozeman and inadvertently demeaning people - why don't you focus on ways to aid the cultural diversity of Bozeman. I grew up in the only county in the US that DID NOT have Welfare, Food Stamps, and Need-Based government programs. Instead of those money / tax sucking programs we were allowed to divert those funds into programs that taught struggling individuals how to apply for jobs, write resumes, interview, and if needed - attend schooling to further their careers and broaden their job base. Those type of programs had a 100% job placement rating. Struggling individuals were allowed county food and shelter assistance for 2 months as they participated in the job / education programs. Employers received a tax break or credit for aiding struggling individuals or the programs. The two colleges in town also assisted in the maintenance and teaching of the programs. It was a COMMUNITY EFFORT. Through excellent and decisive city planning, the County Seat was also a "blight-free" city of 50,000. It can happen - the people of Bozeman just need to stop bitching and DO SOMETHING. We're on the right track, people here care about their city and there have been strides taken to make this town a beautiful place by keeping in mind the historical integrity of the town. If you are scared or worried to live here - get involved and make a difference. Maybe there needs to be an out-reach center for new immigrants to this area? The topic is wide open ! |

See, around here and a few other states, we have these residents called Racists. These people don't want immigration, nor culture and seek a pure lifestyle and home. Sadly, what these people neglect to remember is that people of other nationalities, skin color, orientations, religions, creeds etc are people as well. Your point on changing things around here for the positive is noble at best, but racists and bigots don't care, they'd rather shoot than shake hands. Trying to convince them that "everyone is human and equal" is a pointless task, as most are stubborn and ungrateful, and will lump you into a category because of your open mindedness, much as I'm lumping racists right now. To the ignorant bigot who wrote the article: Please leave. You forget that this is a college city, and "immigrants" as you call them are probably getting an education, something you sadly lack. |

We moved back to Bozeman from California. As I mentioned on another blog, we had our "rose colored glasses on." We too began reading the "Mayberry Police Reports," which rarely if ever give a "true picture" of the crime. Upon returning 2 years ago, with the intention of raising our children in a much better environment, we have found ourselves seriously disappointed. We soon found Bozeman and Belgrade are infested with drugs, and that is the one thing all parents of young children should be worried about. Regarding ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, wow. We watched for years as illegal's CONTINUED to infest California and all the border states. We watched them march in our streets and BURN THE AMERICAN FLAG, with no repercussions. We were careful where we took our children to eat, because the illegals are famous for spitting in the food of "GRINGO'S.S" (Illegals from Mexico, have a high rate of TB and also Hepatitis which are both communicable. The number of hospitals put out of business every year, as a result of illegls who do NOT pay, and use the emergency rooms for anything from a "cough" to liver and kidney disease. Know one thing: Every contractor/business that hires these people at discounted wages, PUTS ONE U.S. CITIZEN ON UNEMPLOYMENT. The contractors/businesses make a FORTUNE from by hiring these people at low wages. So the contractors/business owners make a fortune, while THE REST OF US PICK UP THE TAB in the form of higher taxess for their children to attend schools, hospitals will raise the costs to those of us who pay, and benefits that are needed by families will be shared by people who want nothing more than to take advantage of everyone. Furthermore, most illega's are extremely uneducated, but do not confuse that with stupid. Stupid they are not. They are "cunning" and manipulative, and literally destroy areas they infest. These Illegal Immigrant's have already shown that they are not law abiding people. They have come into the country illegaly and have no intention of following the law. Landlord's benefit, because they will pay their rent on time, to evade any unwanted attention. Caution, they also are famous for housing three to four families in a one family unit. (How do you think they get by on their income?) FINALLY: THEY HAVE TO HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. SO WHEN A CONTRACTOR/BUSINESS ACCEPTS A STOLEN SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, THE FINAL VICTIM IS THE U.S. CITIZEN WHO WILL BE CONTACTED IN ABOUT 2 YEARS BY THE IRS, FOR FAILING OT PAY THEIR INCOME TAXES. Some day it may be you. It is called "Identity Theft." Most in Montana have no idea of the repercussions of the Illegals. Bozeman has sold it's soul. Bozeman is run primarily by "outsiders" and many from Butte, Helena and out of stater's who have not ties to this community other than they moved here and now want to run things. |

| berrymountain - I couldn't agree with everything you've said more! This country, and this valley, is slowly eroding. As far as Bozeman and Montana in general, I attribute it to the attitude of people moving here, which has nothing to do with skin color. Bozeman, and Montana in general, is not the place I grew up in. I feel like a "stranger in my own land" so to speak, more and more out of step with those who are moving here. Many have moved here because they liked our "quaint" little town and small-town values. Slowly, however, they begin to find fault. The locals or "backwoods people" of Bozeman are too ignorant to know what's best for them. They don't appreciate what they have, so someone from the outside must "educate" them. I have news for you - we've always known what we've had - or now I should say, what we HAD. Flocks of people moving here has helped ruin it. Many of you find an opportunity to become the "big fish in the little pond" and just enjoy weilding your little power sticks over the rest of us. Many of you so-called "Montana" artists aren't from here at all, really, and although you may be talented, you have not known the Montana that true locals have know, and are really just painting the surface and fooling people from other places as you proudly proclaim your "Montana" status. Of course I can't just pick on the artists - I pick on any of you strutting around acting like you know this place better than the real locals. We "true" locals, in the meantime, watch what we knew was coming when Big Sky got its start in the 70's, and later when "A River Runs Through It" now brings fake ranchers and rich "get the hell off my property" people who flocked here. Bozeman has become snobbish, selfish, and stupid as it slouches towards being just another gritty little city. It will only get worse. | ||
