Recommendation?

Okay, so this is an unusual topic, but I need some input.

Hubby and I are in the market for a new mattress. We've gone to the Sleep Number Store (wow...those puppies are spendy), Mattress Mill (I am liking their Classic model) and Slumberland (I like the Serta Classic model). I tried a few Tempur-pedics, but they were all too firm and I figure that they will be hot in the summertime with that memory foam.

Hubby has arthritis in his back and the current bed makes my hips and lower back hurt. So obviously-IT'S TIME!

What kind of bed do you have and how wonderful or not-wonderful is it? How much was it? How long have you been sleeping on it? You know...all the normal questions!

Thanks in advance!

And yes, that is my pooch sleeping "comfortably" on her bed.

Invest in the SLEEP # byBozemaniteNo314232 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Just imagine setting the thing to where you are ultimately comfortable, and so is hubby!
Posture perfect...... bydwainegf2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I happen to have a Posture Perfect bed with a 2" swedish foam pad on top of it. The pad was purchased at Sam's club for around $130.00. This helped a lot. You might try that as an alternative until you are able to find the bed you really want/need. BTW I had a sleep number bed and it was great with the exception of sleeping a single person. If the person rolls over they tend to fall over the middle of the bed to the other side which feels a lot like falling out of bed. If your and your husband's schedule is such that you sleep at the same time, I recommend the sleep # bed.
Mattress Mill byWestside4Life2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
It was the best investment I ever made, since you spend about a 1/3rd of you life in bed, there is no reason to skimp. I've had it for two years, and its amazing. The guys at Mattress Mill let you change out the foam if its too firm or too soft until you're happy. I didn't get a mattress with the memory foam, just a regular one.

It's a cali king and I think I spent about $2,000 on it. Money well spent and if this one ever needs to be replaced, I'll be sure to buy another one from them. The staff is great and frankly, you're buying locally so it helps the local economy. Honestly you can't go wrong with these guys.

Not that I am ignoring your advice on the sleep number, but Westside has a great point about supporting the local guys. Also, their customer service was excellent and they are more eager to please :-)

Thanks for all your input!
Careful of the "Mattress Mill" at Four Corners byberrymountain2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Read your "CONTRACT" carefully, wherever you purchase your mattress from. It's got to be heck for the businesses to worry about returns, but let's face it. Even cheap mattresses are expensive.

We purchased one from Mattress Mill. We are happy, and dropped somewhere around $2,500.00 for ours. That was NOT a top of the line mattress there either.

But, what we have noticed over time...is that the foam is beginning to already create a "canoe" where our bodies lie. We were told this would NOT happen, maybe slightly over a ten year period. It's been only two years.

So, for us that was alot of money. By the way, you have 30 days and a complicated "contract" with those folks. We did NOT notice ANY "canoeing" in the first 30 days, but at about 90 days, it was apparent.

Beware...Great mattress, but I don't think it's gonna hold up and I think Mattress Mill knows that, so therefore you have a 30 day contract.

Scary...

I'll definitely keep that in mind. I haven't signed a contract yet either. I shopped around and then ended up ordering mine on the phone.
Don't Worry bytreeman2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I have had two beds from Mattress Mill. The first one was so great that when it came time to replace it I went back to them again. Their mattresses had changed so I spent a great deal of time asking questions and trying to make the right decision. As they explained it to me when I finally bought my bed, I had a year to decide if I liked the bed. Just after my year was up I asked them to make the mattress softer. They were very happy to help me, even though I was past the year timeframe! I can't stand being away from home now, because I miss my bed!
Simmons Pillow Top byvarietychic2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
We recently picked out a Simmons Euro pillowtop bed. I think it was like shadowood or something from Ashley Furniture. It felt good in the store, but it was toooo hard and my husband and I like a firm mattress with soft on top. It was making my arms fall asleep and the pillow top was too close together....if that makes sense. That one was about $900, so pretty inexpensive. We exchanged it for a Simmons pillowtop that is a little softer and the pillow parts are wider sections. It is the most comfortable bed ever! We absolutely love it. It cost about $1500 I think and we sleep soooo good on it.

Remember to buy a good mattress protector too.

Hope that helps!

Yeah we are loving our new bed. The kind we got comes with different levels of firmness. My husband got the firm pad and I got the medium...but he hates the firm. It's just a little too much for him.

And yes, we got the nice mattress protector! That is a necessity.
