Any Honest Vet's in the area?

Looking for an honest vet, who is not geared towards robbing a pet owner, of his or her life savings.

We returned to Bozeman two years ago. Our experience in Texas made us more than leary of vets. We found that vet's today, have found their niche' in guilting pet owners into dozens of tests.

"Oh, we better do blood work."
(Nothing wrong...)
"Oh, it looks like cancer and a very aggressive type."
(Biopsy...NOT...)
"Oh, we must clean his teeth every six months, and put him under anesthesia."
($600.00 every 6 months for 2 animals!)
"Oh, we better do an x-ray..."
(Dog must have had a pulled muscle, who knows...)

blah, blah, blah...(Kaching!$$$$$)

Found my animals were receiving every test, and procedure available to mankind, and humankind. They got more "tests" than I, my wife, or kids have ever had, in a combined 170 years of living. (our ages added together)

This was a "Banfield Vet." I found out after several years of my pockets being picked, that several of my other neighbors unbeknownst to all of us, had experienced the same "caring and compassion" from the same PetSmart Banfield Vet. (Kaching! $$$$$$) So, I would not take my pet to those money grubbing vets.

Looking for a vet who is honest, and does not prey on the owners emotions, or pocket book. I have kids in college. At this stage of the game, books, tuition and lab fees have me watching every penny.

Anyone suggest a good vet. Looking for honesty, not every test that can be done to animals, under the guise of being a good pet owner, and initiated by money grubbing vet's who hide behind a pretend mask of caring.

Dr. Doug Rains has been the vet for my dogs and cats for years. I would not even consider another. There is no need to look further.

I am with Danie about Cottonwood Veterinary. I had an emergency with my cat last year and after receiving care (excellent care by the way), I received a bill that was quite high. After speaking to the vet, she worked with me on my bill and made quite a few deductions because I couldn't afford it.

My "neighbor" just told me the same thing. That's where I'm gonna go I think. Sounds like a great place, and people who actually care about the animals, and not just robbing us blind.

P.S. Where is Dr. Rains? Need a back up for sure...just in case. Thx

Thank you

Kudo's to Dr. Rains bycowgirlmedic4 days ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
So I had to use him today (because Cottonwood was booked). He's a nice guy and a veteran (military) veterinarian (that sounds funny). Anyways, I had a last minute appt and a fairly easy procedure (anal gland expression...blech), plus 6 months of heartguard medication-cost me almost $100.00 Not horrible I think. I'll use him again.

And for those who don't know-he is building another clinic, so that he can take on large animals.

Oh and for a large animal vet-I use John Smart. He does house calls and is a pretty cool dude too.

Well, I went. This vet and his staff I would rate at 10+. Good to know that Bozeman has honest vets, with the best interst of animals at heart.
