How many are for a No Cell Phone while driving law

I guess the state is amortizing related deaths

I alway's lose count of the numerous cell phone talker's I see driving, and the near misses that happen everyday. It's amazing to me that someone feels they have to be that connected to be blabbing so much, and I'm sure it's mostly BS'ing.

Of course you know whats best 4 me..... byjohnbrownraider3 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I would totally agree....in fact I would take it a step further....

Rules of Driving....JBR style

1. No Cell phones
2. No talking to passengers
3. No eating
4. No drinking any liquid
5. No Music
6. No more than one teenager in a vehicle without at least one person over 30 in the car.
7. No fidgeting
8. Hands must be kept at 10 and 2
9. No kissing
10.No checking out hot chicks....
11. No distractions at all.

In fact my friends I intend to keep us so safe that we will install cameras and detectors in your cars to ensure all the laws are followed to a T. We must all sacrifice our personal freedom to ensure our own safety. Yes my friends with these laws in place you will be very well protected by the government.

Of course the punishment for breaking any of them will result in long stints of hard jail time. Because if you don't follow the laws you could get someone killed. We will treat you like a DUI driver and throw away the key after we lock you up.

Yes folks it is our duty to give up freedoms so that we can "feel" safer....

You're brain must be the size of a LeSeur Pea!

I am all in favor of such a law, it's not government protection, it's because there are nonsensical people who think that driving any vehicle is like playing with a Matchbox toy. There are too many fools behind car wheels.
RE: Of course you know whats best 4 me..... byDeadWolf3 months ago (2 votes) (report abuse)
AND THE WINNER IS......

Ban Farting the the vehicle.

My husband farted so bad once that my eyes rolled back in my head and I almost blacked out. So we need to ban farting too, because I could have wrecked.

And what about all of those bikers that I see on the phone????? They could just as easily cause their own death!

Hey JBR, I like your thinking, can I work where you work? ; )
JBR bySuperJames3 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Johnbrownraider hits it on the head again! At first I just thought he was talking smack, but we ARE lucky to have him here! His list above is only lacking one thing....young children in the car! These must certainly be outlawed as well, as they are an incredibly dangerous distraction! :)
We need NO MORE governmental control!!!! There is far too much already, can't some of you see that it's not very good at actually solving any problems, but more used for gaining revenue and controlling the people, as power is SOOOOOOO frequently abused by those who have it? There are certainly a lot of fools behind the wheels of cars, but there are at least an equal percentage of fools behind the wheels of power!

A pendulum swinging... byberrymountain3 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
It is not reasonable for a person to claim/believe that they can hold a phone to one side of their head, carry on a conversation, and focus on driving at the same time.

You compare that "choice," to a mother who has an infant or child in the car who may well be crying? Quite simple; If a woman is responsible enough to have a child, she better darn well be responsible to find a safe place to pull off the road and care for that child. Not while she is driving.

Does your brain work like a "pendulum?" Re-read your own post regarding "everyone has a right to my opinion."

Seriously JBR, you take things to extremes in an attempt to make some of your points.

I take driving very seriously, and hope that I will never cause an accident harming another person(s) (which I have not), or be involved in an accident (which I have not). I have been driving since I was 15 and have an immaculate record. I like anyone else can and do make mistakes. I can only speak for myself here. I hope to look back and be proud that I never harmed a person, because of my selfish behaviors. You see, I value your life and everyone else on the road. So, I choose to be responsible driver. This includes avoiding distractions that are known to be risky. Cell phones are undeniably risky.

There are behaviors we can change, that will ultimately benefit everyone. Some people need "laws" to stop their practice of risky behaviors. Then they hide behind the claim that "the government" is taking over, and we are loosing rights.

It's common sense, and I see some have none.

Of course we should ban cell phone use in cars! I can't count the number of times I've almost met my maker because of some moron too busy gabbing away to pay attention to traffic. Trying to navigate through parking lots is the worst. It seems that we're supposed to look out for them-they feel under no obligation to use any kind of caution and common sense.

Even though we think we are so good that we can talk and drive at the same time, believe me no one is that good!!

would it kill a person to stay off the phone while driving? 20 years ago these gadgets were rare and we, as a society, managed to survive.

Get a grip, set the phone down, and keep your eyes and brain on the road before "the Man" makes another law that infringes on our rights.
Cells byArt3 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I'm pretty sure a family member got a citation instead of a warning not so much for a violation of a rolling stop but because he was on a cell phone when it occured. That's not a bad thing because I think police realize driving with a cell phone going isn't safe and they are probably frustrated there isn't a law.
Personally, I think that a driver who would use a cell is more of an "all about me" type person and is more of an aggressive and inconsiderate driver to start with. They don't need a phone in their ears.
Every time I see a driver with a cell phone on, I can't help but wonder what it is that is so important that they have to be on the phone while driving and I can't help but wonder just who it is they are talking to.
RE: Cells by2ndMonkey3 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse)
Unfortunately, because there is no law, there are a lot of cops on cell phones.
Everytime I drive through Livingston and see a cop, they're on their cellphone.

I suppose it's better than eating a donut!
(this is just a joke, don't get defensive if you are, or are related to a cop law enforcement).
I stopped in the Town & Country Market in Livingston one night and the Sherriff
was buying pop & donut's, he joked about it!)
to many almosts.... byjohnbrownraider3 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
wow...first I would like to thank BozemaniteNo31423 because I have no idea what a LeSeur Pea is. Therefore I must be a complete idiot. Moving on, today I saw a old lady cross the road and almost get hit, point, ban old ladies from walking. I also almost so a kid lose his ball and almost run out into the street...point, ban kids from balls and from running. I almost saw a police officer miss someone speeding because he was talking on his radio while driving...point ban police radios...The point is I "almost" saw a lot of things but never saw any of them. Bring real facts not all this emotionally charged garbage. Or you can form a group, PACD (parents against cell driving) wow.

As for the mother disciplining, how many times have you seen a mother driving with one hand in the back seat....

But anyway, keep the mud slinging up, it makes my day, I will let you know that I tx, talk on the phone, drive with no hands, dig for crap in the back seat, and all sorts of distractions all while I am driving. However never got in an accident.

Another thing that baffles me is why Montanans are so against people from Cali, but everything on this forum shows me you want to make Bozeman a little San Fransisco...
RE: to many almosts....JBR Most of the people on this blog are not "Native Montanan's" byberrymountain3 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse)
People move here from other places, because they claim to like it here. Then they want to change it. Those people did not have anything to do with building this town.

Today on MSN a front page article about the PROVEN risks of conversing on a cell phone, while driving. Guess what? Those with "blue tooth" technology, wireless ear pieces are at the same risk. I doubt anyone is interested, but here it is.

my take byPooterman3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I am not a big fan of texting while driving (I have tried this once and - short msg - but decided it was TOO hard to do both). I do not feel we should ban cell phone use though. If you ban that you do need to ban everything else that causes the same or more of a distraction and JBR's list has several of those items listed. What about driving while deep in thought, maybe you have a vexing problem at work or something. That is just as dangerous or more so.

If I have a real big or deep phone conversation, I will pull over so that I can concentrate. But if it is quick and not very deep I will deal with it on the phone.
Rights byMrs Claus3 months ago (4 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Everybody is so hung up on the rights thing. Well, if you plow into me because your attention was on your phone call, you have taken away my right to get to my destination safely, even my right to live. It has been proven that talking on the cell causes as many accidents as drinking, and I'm sorry you still aren't good enough to do both.

As for the other distractions, yep they cause accidents, too. How about a little common sense when you get behind the wheel?

Oh, sorry, I don't see much of that anymore. We are too "connected" and too addicted to all our little electronic toys and gadgets. I like all that stuff, too, but a 10 mile drive without the phone ringing is a nice break. Whatever they want me for can wait an extra ten minutes.

If we all got our heads out of our bums, we wouldn't need laws to keep us alive.

My son's right to live was taken away by a driver using a cell phone!
"Common Sense" byberrymountain3 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Interesting that those who whine about safety issues concerning bicycle riding, also are the same one's who actually want to promote cell phone use (talking/texting) while driving their own vehicles.

Just don't get that.

Also, in the bigger cities cameras at intersections have recorded wrecks where people were texting/talking while driving AND CAUSING WRECKS.

When I get into a vehicle, I drive...not talk, not text, not dig in the back seat for things. I just drive. Must be my low IQ, or maybe I just have more respect for life than some people do.
Headsets bySloBoz3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
A lot of states have instituted the "Must Use Headsets" law...which I think would be appropriate and fair. Since I started using the headset, I find that my driving skills aren't so impared...only problem is that folks are looking at me like I am talking to myself!
How many are for a no cell phone while driving law? bygaryt3 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I used to have a delivery route around town and saw at least 20 or more near accidents every day. I even was almost ran over while crossing a street at a legal crosswalk by a guy on a motorcycle yapping on a phone. I was hit by a woman in a grocery store pushing a cart while talking on a cell phone. I know of 6 deaths around the state caused by someone talking while driving. Make fun of it if you want- that's your right. However if someone you care about gets killed because of some idiot yapping on a phone don't expect any sympathy from me. Account for your stupidity - hang up and drive.

I agree.

If I ever see an accident caused by someone texting/talking on their phone, I'll make sure I hang around and write out a very detailed police report.

Well, people all I got to say, well ok I got more, but all I am going to say, it is really fun to run around and tell people how to live, what to do, when to do it, the people running around telling us what to do call it "protection" the rest of us at the bottom call it communism. So, as you run around trying to save lives, do this, busy body that, remember that you, Chinese government, North Korean government, Cuban and a variety of others all have the same ideas. Maybe you guys can get a support group together...you know to support each other.

Now you are mad, because you aren't like those governments, your ideas are good...what makes your ideas so much better than mine that yours should be pushed onto me and mine disregarded. Its not like I don't think that there is a way this world should be run, "If I was in charge...." but no, I think we should be able to make choices...

RE: Cubas close...or so they say byberrymountain3 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse)
According to you JBR and his words of wisdom, we should all live life how we want. Selfishly and without regard to others. Sounds like a "free for all."

Without the "United States," there well might be slavery still going on in the south. Yup, lots of folks down south didn't WANT to stop practicing what they believed. These people fought and died to maintain a lifestyle they had become accustomed to.

Thank goodness for President Lincoln who opposed such ignorant, evil, choices.

Hmmm...Combine ignorance, and a lack of basic U.S. History and education, and people will come up with the darndest ideas. Sure, everyone should drive a vehicle with one hand on a phone stuck to their ear.

By the way, you all look stupid driving like that.

You see, some people respect our country and its people. Others have no respect for anything unless it suits their agenda. Sad that we must make laws because of a total disregard for human life.

I guess now I understand "why" you were picked up in Idaho. It had nothing to do with the color of your skin as you stated, it had to do with th
