You're right...the righteous GOP have never lied or slept around on their spouses. Just ask Cindy McCain. Here's what she said on rumors of an affair between John McCain and lobbyist, Vicki Iseman: "More importantly, my children and I not only trust my husband, but know that he would never do anything to not only disappoint our family, but disappoint the people of America. He's a man of great character." Cindy McCain met and began dating John McCain when he was married. So, Cindy met John when he was cheating on his wife, but she knows he'd never cheat on his wife. Right. |

wow...how typical, the first words out of bandits mouth is not to address the problem but simply to point the finger in another direction...i kind of liked the saying the buck stops here......but for dems its like a hot potato to see how fast they can point, scream, and ignore the problems that are consuming their party! Don't worry bandit I am sure that you will come back and point out some problem in the GOP, instead of addressing the points that I am making about your party. In the whole article did you ever once hear me mention the GOP? If I wanted to hear about the GOP's problems I would have written about them, but didn't because that isn't the point. I am serious folks its like an disease, every time you criticize the democrats its like a automatic response....well look at the GOP....ok bandit we are looking, but that isn't what we are talking about stay on point... |

What Bandit is trying to say is-why accuse the Dems of the same thing that the GOPers are guilty of. My question is-why hasn't it been it the press that when McCain's first wife became seriously ill, he dumped her. I'm sick and tired of the Republicans saying that they're so pure and family oriented. Bull cookies!! Everybody accuses the media of being so liberal. If they are so left-wing why haven't they reported on this? |

edwards is a dirt-bag. and so are a lot of other people too, on both sides of the aisle. but there's a special little dark place in my heart for him now, mainly due to the fact that his lies had the potential to bring down a party, if he'd won the nomination. did he think that that skeleton in his closet would never be found? JBR, at first glance, there's no false statements in your post, but it is indeed decidedly one-sided. if someone wrote the exact same post, but used GOP instances rather the Dem instances, i'd say the same thing to them. where i think you are mistaken though is in wondering aloud about what obama might be lying about, just because a member of his same party was just caught out. on that logic, anyone in montana could be suspected of wanting to bring a gun into the capitol, just because we come from the same state as that one guy. i'm seeing it now: 2 lines for visitors: "People from Montana" and "Everyone else". it's fun to be extremist on some points, but on this one there's nothing in the end. your story of kennedy & clinton is right on - although i really don't care why you call him bilbo - but the rest of it is a bit stretched to meet your editorial desires. to me the end result is: edwards is a dirt-bag. period. why try to paint every other democrat with the same brush? there's good apples and bad apples in every single group, and ignoring your own bad apples can be very bad for your health... |

The point that I was pointing out was problems that I saw in the Democratic party. Not the GOP. I know the GOP has problems, and maybe I will write on them, but the here and now we are talking about the Democrats. The fact is that they always try to justify their short coming by looking at republicans. It would be like me talking about how about bad Nazi Germany was, and having someone say "Oh, but look at communist russia....nazi germany wasn't bad..." see the humor? If we are talking about Democrats lets talk about them. Whether in defending or attacking, not all this other mumbo jumbo crap that they try to pull by bringing in the GOP.... Who said that Republicans are nice and family oriented? I surely would dispute that. Yeah thats nice but stay on topic...it is so hard for me to follow these peoples writings when they continually jump topic to topic. Finally it can't be helped but to paint them with the same brush. I didn't give them the labels they stuck them on themselves, chose to associate with the people they do. If I voted like a terrorist, hung out with terrorists, and called terrorists my friend wouldn't you think I was a terrorist even if I wasn't? So in the same breath to Obama who votes with the rotten apples, hangs out with the rotten apples, and calls the rotten apples his friends isn't just natural I assume he is a rotten apple??? |

Yep...Edwards is a dog. So is Kennedy, Clinton, Gary Hart, Elliot Spitzer...so on and so on. So that means ALL Democrats lie. Wow. Typical GOP drivel right of the handbook, the pages on the right side of course! What is the tally of GOP vs Dems in terms of cheating, being arrested, molesting teenage boys, looking for sex in airport bathrooms, illegal drug use, bribery, etc? Lets ask Larry Craig Mark Foley Ted Stevens Tom Delay Rudy Guiliani Newt Gingrich etc, etc... Did they all tell the truth and the whole truth when confronted with an accusation? Doubtful. Check out this wikipedia page. Don't know how true it is, but stumbled on to it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:User_At_Work/Pols_under_investigation |

nice reply, and i agree with you, that deflecting criticism by pointing at the faults of one's rival is a very weak tactic. but i disagree with you that it's natural to assume a person is bad because he voted the same way as someone you labelled as bad. voting the same on a topic doesn't necessarily mean that the two individuals placing those votes share the same reasons, or overall philosophy towards life & the world. you also present as fact that obama hangs out with rotten apples and calls rotten apples his friends. who are these apples? aside from the daily political sideshows, i think obama mainly rolls with his family. my point is ultimately that this argument is silly to have, since you seem to agree that McCain could probably have similar criticism leveled at him as well. the only result of this topic is an endless roll of griping, a la "yeah i agree they're all a bunch of crooks". but it does nothing for moving forward. this country has moved forward when individuals who disagree have gathered the strength to reach across the aisle and take challenging paths for the greater good. sometimes they've succeeded, and sometimes they've failed. but progress has NEVER been made by sitting around and pointing the finger at one guy and saying he's a rotten apple. so aside from bickering over whether dems are worse then repubs, and vice-versa, is there any light at the end of this tunnel? what would be positive movement, to you? what are the biggest areas where you think this country needs to change? |

Here's the thing--I love that the American public gets all mad when politicians lie to them about what they do in their bedrooms. I mean seriously, if it came to light that GW was into S and M and he denied it--then someone came up with proof--would the American public be pissed at him? Why is it our business? Is it because we think politicians should be above everyone else? Who tells the truth when caught cheating? I found these statistics and thought they were enlightening: It's tough to get a handle on how many of us are having affairs, given the inherent secrecy. 22 percent of married men have strayed at least once during their married lives. 14 percent of married women have had affairs at least once during their married lives. Younger people are more likely candidates; in fact, younger women are as likely as younger men to be unfaithful. 70 percent of married women and 54 percent of married men did not know of their spouses' extramarital activity. 5 percent of married men and 3 percent of married women reported having sex with someone other than their spouse in the year1997. 22 percent of men and 14 percent of women admitted to having sexual relations outside their marriage sometime in their past. 90 percent of Americans believe adultery is morally wrong. ***50 percent of Americans say President Clinton's adultery makes his moral standard "about the same as the average married man,'' according to a Time-CNN poll. 61 percent of Americans thought adultery should not be a crime in the United states; 35 percent thought it should; 4 percent had no opinion. 17 percent of divorces in the United States are caused by infidelity. Source: Associated Press Up to 37% of men and 22% of women admit to having affairs. Researchers think the vast majority of the millions of people who visit chat rooms, have multiple "special friends”. Dr. Bob Lanier, askbob.com Recent studies reveal that 45-55% of married women and 50-60% of married men engage in extramarital sex at some time or another during their relationship (Atwood & Schwartz, 2002 - Journal of Couple & Relationship Therapy) Only 46% of men believe that online affairs are adultery. DivorceMag 80% think it's Ok to talk with a stranger identified as the opposite sex. 75% thinks it's ok to visit an adult site. About 60 percent of men and 40 percent of women will have an affair at some point in some marriage "Monogamy Myth", Therapist Peggy Vaugn About 24 percent of men and 14 percent of women have had sex outside their marriages, according to a Dec. 21, 1998 report in USA Today on a national study by the University of California, San Francisco. Affairs affect one of every 2.7 couples, according to counselor Janis Abrahms Spring, author of After the Affair,as reported by the Washington Post on March 30, 1999. Ten percent of extramarital affairs last one day, 10 percent last more than one day but less than a month, 50 percent last more than a month but less than a year, but 40 percent last two or more years. Few extramarital affairs last more than four years. A lesser known fact is that those who divorce rarely marry the person with whom they are having the affair. For example, Dr. Jan Halper’s study of successful men (executives, entrepreneurs, professionals) found that very few men who have affairs divorce their wife and marry their lovers. Only 3 percent of the 4,100 successful men surveyed eventually married their lovers. Frank Pittman has found that the divorce rate among those who married their lovers was 75 percent. The reasons for the high divorce rate include: intervention of reality, guilt, expectations, a general distrust of marriage, and a distrust of the affairee. One-third of divorce litigation is caused by online affairs. This Is An Internet E-Mergency, The Fortino Group Approximately 70% of time on-line is spent in chat rooms or sending e-mail; of these interactions, the vast majority are romantic in nature. Dr. Michael Adamse, PhD., co-author of Affairs of the Net: The Cybershrinks' Guide to Online Relationships Because of the anonymity, affordability, and accessibility of Internet sexual resources, the computer can accelerate the transition from "at risk" to "addicted," as well as the progression of sex addiction in those with a history of prior sexual compulsivity. Cooper et al Survey 8-10 percent of Internet users become hooked on cybersex. Dr. Bob Lanier, askbob.com Spouses who get hooked on Internet porn are a growing complaint among spouses filing for divorce, according to a survey of 350 divorce attorneys. "If there's dissatisfaction in the existing relationship, the Internet is an easy way for people to scratch the itch," said lawyer J. Lindsey Short, Jr., president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, which conducted the study. 57% of people have used the Internet to flirt. 38% of people have engaged in explicit online sexual conversation and 50% of people have made phone contact with someone they chatted with online. Evidence proves there is a high correlation between on-line infidelity and subsequent real-time sexual affairs. Evidence supports the existence of disinhibition, accelerated intimacy, and hyper-sexual online behavior that can easily lead to real-time infidelity 31% of people have had an online conversation that has led to real-time sex. It is estimated that 53% of all people will have one or more affairs during their lifetime. Look at the numbers from Playboy Magazine: -2 out of 3 women and 3 out of 4 men admit they have sexual thoughts about co-workers. -86% of men and 81% of women admit they routinely flirt with the opposite sex. -75% of men and 65% of women admit to having sex with people they work with. The fact is that human beings are NOT monogamous by nature. That means they cheat. Experts say that a gut instinct is the most powerful indicator of a cheating lover. Adultery statistics state that 85% of woman who feel their lover is cheating are correct. 50% of men who feel their lover is cheating are right. The first clue is seldom obvious. Typically, it's a "feeling" that something is different. Cheating spouse statistics confirm that 50 and 70 percent of married men (between 38 and 53 million men) have cheated or will cheat on their wives. One study found that 2/3 of the wives (26 to 36 million women) whose husbands were cheating had no idea their husbands were having an affair - largely because they failed to recognize the telltale signs. According to Annette Lawson, author of Adultery, published in 1989 by Basic Books. "The various researchers arrive at a general consensus…suggesting that above one-quarter to about one-half of married women have at least one lover after they are married in any given marriage. Married men probably still stray more often than married women—perhaps from 50 percent to 65 percent by the age of forty." According to Maggie Scarf, author of Intimate Partners, first published in 1987 by Random House, re-issued in 1996 by Ballentine. "Most experts do consider the 'educated guess' that at the present time some 50 to 65 percent of husbands and 45 to 55 percent of wives become extramaritally involved by the age of 40 to be a relatively sound and reasonable one." According to Peggy Vaughan, author of The Monogamy Myth, first published in 1989 by Newmarket Press (third edition published 2003). Conservative infidelity statistics estimate that “60 percent of men and 40 percent of women will have an extramarital affair. These figures are even more significant when we consider the total number of marriages involved, since it's unlikely that all the men and women having affairs happen to be married to each other. If even half of the women having affairs (or 20 percent) are married to men not included in the 60 percent having affairs, then at least one partner will have an affair in approximately 80 percent of all marriages. With this many marriages affected, it's unreasonable to think affairs are due only to the failures and shortcomings of individual husbands or wives." Note that the above adultry statistics of the prevalence of affairs were made more than a decade ago; so based on changes in society during the intervening years, the current percentage of the population who have had affairs is probably somewhat HIGHER. For instance, the continuing increase of women in the workplace and the increase of women having affairs on the Internet means that the numbers for women having affairs is probably similar to those for men—about 60%. |

You obviously weren't raised like I was that says you need to think for yourself because the world is a f--ked up place. So everyone is cheating this gives you the right to cheat? dang that got to be a rough life....I really don't care of 100% of the people cheated because it would only be 99.9% of them because I still wouldn't.....But have fun not holding your politicians to any kind of standard get back at me and tell me how that works out for you... | ||

I did not even say anything about agreeing with cheating--I was simply pointing out some facts. Jumping to conclusions is a weird way to approach a comment. FYI, married for 19 years and don't see why you would have any reason to feel sorry for my spouse but I guess your mind jumped to something there too. BTW, have never experienced cheating in my marriage but I, personally, do know from experience that marriage is one of the hardest things to be successful at and sometimes people make mistakes--I feel sorry for your spouse if you do not realize that. And, no, probably not raised like you because I do not make such big assumptions... Did not say I do not hold my politicians to a standard--I simply pointed out that what they do in their bedroom is none of my business. I do find it interesting that an alcoholic, ex-coke head is okay but a man who was unfaithful is not...guess we are pretty different there. |

You see I do care about the people I put into office so if I ask them a question and they lie about it...that is a big problem to me....that is just my opinion you can have a totally different one...btw, I find it slightly less than dull that you don't jump to conclusions yet you already feel sorry for my wife. FYI it isn't any of your info, but if the person says they are a good nice person and you elect them on that set of principles it sucks to find out that they are really a lying cheating a hole. If they run on the fact that they are a lying cheating a hole and you elect them knowing who they are then no one would care. Bush's problems everyone knows about, he doesn't lie about having at one time done drugs drank so on and so fourth....sorry buddy can't say the same about the people listed above.... I always thought it was interesting that Jerry Falwell would endorse a man for President (Ronald Reagan) who he would not allow to be a deacon in his church. Reagan's divorce did not make him a better or worse president...personally, I think he was one of the greatest we've ever had. Americans seem to be very forgiving of past mistakes. Clinton's was not far enough past to be past. Gary Hart was carrying on during the campaign. Newt Gingrich while in office. John McCain's problem was directly related to serious adjustment difficulties that resulted from his time as a POW. This has been openly discussed by him and his ex-wife. That doesn't excuse infidelity, but it may help us understand it a little in his case. The problem with Edwards is that folks feel more sorry for his wife than they did for Hillary, and he lied about it while asking us to trust him with our votes. Here's a question, first raised by HRC campaign advisor Howard Wolfson (and maybe one reason some folks are so unforgiving): If he hadn't lied, and he had recognized this was going to "disqualify" him from the nomination, and he had dropped out when it first came up and gone about doing the right thing for his wife and family...wouldn't the majority of votes he received in the Iowa caucus have gone to HRC, and wouldn't that have made the difference in the remainder of the primaries and given HRC the nomination? In other words, didn't his cheating and lying about it cost HRC the presidency? And we say it's nobody's business what they do in their private lives. |

to elect people based on their stands on issues and philosophies instead of party lines. I know too many people who'll vote a party line just because they want a Democrat or a Republican in office. It's time to stand up and vote for the person who best represents YOUR wants and philosophies and needs. If it's Obama then vote for the man, if it's McCain, vote for him. Then vote for Congressmen and women who'll reach across the aisle and get the job done as partners for the American people. |

Who says it's nobody's business what anyone does in their private lives? People gossip all the time & seem to love the juicy stories best, even right here in Bozeman. So it matters alot. Private life is a bellweather indicator of the character/ethics/morality of an individual. It's the best way to determine that. If people wouldn't be so greedy/corrupt/lying/cheating/stealing these stories wouldn't make it to the media. (There's just so much of it reported annually, we are over-whelmed by it.) But the truth will always be the truth. If people live righteous lives, then I'll be able to trust them. If people tell the truth, then I'll be able to believe in them. Politicians are known for deceptions used to get elected. They are hard to trust. Some will say anything to get elected including bashing each other by making sure the worst news about their opponent is exposed. |

That was the mantra of the Clinton supporters during the "bimbo eruptions". If you're referring to my final sentence, you missed the sarcasm. As for "...making sure the worst news about their opponent is exposed.", if that news is dishonesty, then that needs to be exposed. Our choice seems to be between the "Straight Talk Express" and "A Change We Can Believe In." Is McCain telling it straight? If he's not, then I want to know. But when the bashing itself is a lie, e.g., saying McCain wants the Iraq war to last 100 years, how do you believe anything else the basher has to say? How do we know when he's not lying? How can we believe in Obama's change when the only change we have seen is his change in his position depending on his target audience? If McCain deliberately distorts Obama's position, that's one thing. It's entirely another when he points out inconsistancies in his oponent's stand on any particular matter. |

know somewhere in some post there was the "both sides are bad/lets see a list" thing. So, here we go with the REPUBLICAN list. Two lists, there may be overlap. Back to reality. Of the 50 states, Alaska ranks No. 1 in taxes per resident and No. 1 in spending per resident. Its tax burden per resident is 21/2 times the national average; its spending, more than double. The trick is that Alaska's government spends money on its own citizens and taxes the rest of us to pay for it. Although Palin, like McCain, talks about liberating ourselves from dependence on foreign oil, there is no evidence that being dependent on Alaskan oil would be any more pleasant to the pocketbook. Alaska is, in essence, an adjunct member of OPEC. It has four different taxes on oil, which produce more than 89% of the state's unrestricted revenue. On average, three-quarters of the value of a barrel of oil is taken by the state government before that oil is permitted to leave the state. Alaska residents each get a yearly check for about $2,000 from oil revenues, plus an additional $1,200 pushed through by Palin last year to take advantage of rising oil prices. Any sympathy the governor of Alaska expresses for folks in the lower 48 who are suffering from high gas prices or can't afford to heat their homes is strictly crocodile tears. As if it couldn't support itself, Alaska also ranks No. 1, year after year, in money it sucks in from Washington. In 2005 (the most recent figures), according to the Tax Foundation, Alaska ranked 18th in federal taxes paid per resident ($5,434) but first in federal spending received per resident ($13,950). Its ratio of federal spending received to federal taxes paid ranks third among the 50 states, and in the absolute amount it receives from Washington over and above the amount it sends to Washington, Alaska ranks No. 1. · Find this article at: · http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1839724,00.ht |
